Eminent is finally done – NotN assessment

Eminent is finally done, and a complete success! A month full of worrying literally disappears  after a 2 minute speech. Weeks and weeks of preparation paid off all in one night. I distinctly remember watching the grade 10’s doing their speeches last year and thinking “yeah I don’t think I’ll ever be ready for that kind of performance.” Here I am, a couple days after the speech and I’m still standing.. Learning center: Success

This years learning center was actually good. That’s right my learning center was actually decent this year! Last year, I had not known what I was in for and created a mediocre trifold learning center. Starting off the process of my learning center I spent hours lying on my couch the week before the actual night planning what I really wanted my learning center to look like. While my sister.. Crystal’s fabulous Biblography

Eminent night is almost here, that means finalizing and finishing up all the small details in the next three days!  Here is a list of sources I used over the period of this project: http://theglobalhuman.wordpress.com/come-back-to-me-again-sadako/ A brief letter from Sadako’s mother before her death in 1998. The letter was originally in Japanese, but an un-named source translated the letter. The letter was a touching tribute that allowed you to see.. Read More

Interview – It’s the thought that counts

The eminent interview: the component of the project that always goes wrong for me. Last year I received replies about interviews in April, which was half a year too late! I can’t even express how frustrating it always is for me to try finding anyone to interview. Here is my biggest problem, Sadako’s siblings and close family have all passed away with the exception of one brother who doesn’t understand English. I couldn’t.. Read More

Document of Learning – Almost there!

Night of the Notables is coming closer and closer, and I would be lying if I said everything is going smoothly as planned. You think since I’m in grade 10 this year, I would learn from last years mistake of starting off too slow. I feel as though this year has definitely been busier than last year, and eminent has almost been last priority for a couple weeks. Now eminent.. Read More

Eminent Library Trip

Last Thursday, the TALONS gang (as I call us) took a lovely trip to SFU. Going into the trip, I was very excited to have a lovely day strolling through SFU campus, eating good Indian food, and a quiet afternoon in the library. At least that’s what I thought. I’m not really sure what I was expecting to get out of this trip, but narrowing it down I would say.. Read More

Eminent Introductory Post: Sadako Sasaki

Another year, another stressful November to come. It’s that time of year again, the most talked about project in the TALONS program itself: The eminent person project. Coming back this year as a grade 10, I’m glad I know what to expect. I can gladly admit, I had no idea what I was doing last year, and sometimes I want to rewind and fix the mess that was my project.. Read More

Annotated biblography

Last post of eminent, how exciting. I used quite a bit of different resources for this project, but here are the sources that helped me the best. http://eleanor.robertfripp.ca/index.cfm?PAGEPATH=&ID=21478 Since my speech was from the perspective of Eleanor’s dead daughter, it was important to find the key events of her life on a timeline. I found that knowing what she accomplished from one event to another allowed me to tell a.. Read More

Learning center

When I first started creating my learning center, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I remember drawing a whole bunch of drafts on different pieces of paper and coming out with many ugly designs. In the end, I did come up with an idea I was happy with and it’s posted  on my document of learning post. I’m very happy that in the end, my learning center actually looked better.. Read More

Night of the Notables – The actual day

Waking up the morning of Night of the Notables, I was excited, but also afraid. I know what your thinking “Why were you afraid? You’re in Grade 9”, but honestly I was afraid for the grade 10’s. That morning, I arrived at school at 8 in the morning. There was still some finishing touches to be added to my learning centre and not to mention the document of the game.. Read More
